FREDONIA, NY — The RIT (12-7, 6-2 Liberty League) women's volleyball team lost the first match of the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational in three sets at the hands of John Carroll University (9-8) on Friday evening. John Carroll won by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-16.
The Blue Streaks won the match with set scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-16. The Tigers had 28 kills on 99 attacks. Senior Sarah Szybist (Colorado Springs, CO/Ramstein) led the Tigers with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Anna Valentine (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) hit .364 with 10 kills and six digs. Sophomore Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) had 22 assists and two blocks, while Rebecca Bennett (Springfield, PA/Springfield) added a team-best 14 digs
"We were really flat at times," said RIT head coach Jim Lodes. "Our energy level needs to be better. I'm expecting us to come out tomorrow ready to play."
The Tigers continue play in the Fredonia Blue Dev, against host Fredonia at 10 a.m. and Buffalo State College at 12 p.m.
