POTSDAM, NY — The RIT (3-3-2, 0-0-1 Liberty League) men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw in its first Liberty League action of the season Saturday, on the road against Clarkson (4-4-2, 0-0-1 Liberty League).
The Tigers led the match in shots, 10-9, having fired four on target, as opposed to two by the Golden Knights. Both teams had their chances to score, but the defensive units excelled on both sides.
Sophomore Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) recorded his third shutout of the season, with two saves. He has allowed just two goals in the last four games for RIT. The Tigers defense faced eight corner kicks, compared to six at the other end. Those included a dangerous play in the box following a corner by Clarkson in the 76th minute, which was sent aside by Cinibulk and the RIT defense.
Freshman Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had six shots, including all of RIT's four sent on goal in the contest. Sophomore Gene Sicoli (Commack, NY/Commack) finished with four shots.
The Tigers will get a week off, before returning to action at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 against Rensselaer at Tiger Stadium.
