ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (4-0) stayed undfeated to start the 2016-17 season, rallying to defeat SUNY Cortland (4-3) on Wednesday afternoon from the RIT Tennis Courts.
Down 2-1 after doubles and 3-1 after the first singles match, RIT roared back to win the next four matches and take the match.
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) got RIT back into the match by defeating Mia Hayes at the first singles position, 6-1, 6-2.
Valerie Luttman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) evened the match by earning a 6-1, 6-3 win over Cassie Special at fifth singles and
Maddy Price (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) gave RIT the 4-3 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Michelle Coffey at the sixth position.
Brianna Dimisko (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) secured the fifth and final point for the Tigers, continuing her strong play with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Katie Fineman at third singles.
Luttman was RIT's lone dual winner of the day, as she partnered with
Diana Kulawiec (Fairport, NY/Fairport) to record an 8-5 victory over Kelli Camp and Kristen Parker at third doubles.
RIT is back in action this weekend with the ITA Tournament hosted by William Smith from Saturday to Monday and a dual match against Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday at 12 p.m.
