PINE VALLEY, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (3-0) won its second and third consecutive dual matches to start the season, knocking off Liberty League rival Bard (3-1) by a score of 6-3 and host Elmira (1-6), 7-2, both indoors at the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday as part of the Elmira Invitational.
In the win over Bard, RIT took two doubles matches and four singles events.
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Geanna Heaviland, and
Brianna Dimisko (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) were victorious in both singles and doubles. Ying and Heaviland took down Hariette Slagle and Lily Schwartz at first doubles, 8-2, while Dimisko and
Maddy Price (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) won at second doubles over Amelia Tiemann and MacKenzie Wardell, also by a score of 8-2.
Ying defeated Schwartz at first singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Heaviland secured a 6-0, 6-3 victory at second singles. Dimisko took down Slagle at third singles, 6-4, 6-2, while
Valerie Luttman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) defeated Lily Zacharias in the fifth spot, 8-3.
Against Elmira, Dimisko and Price were victorious at second doubles, 8-0, while
Diana Kulawiec (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Luttman also won by that score at third doubles to give RIT a 2-1 lead heading into the singles portion.
Ying earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles, while Dimisko, Kulawiec, Luttman, and Price also were victorious in singles play.
Dimsko was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday with a home match against SUNY Cortland that gets underway at 4 p.m.
