FREDONIA, NY -- The RIT (4-1-1) women's soccer team went on the road and beat SUNY Fredonia (2-4-0), 1-0 through the rain on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Sami Alur (Fremont, CA/Irvington) scored her first collegiate goal and the Tigers defense posted its third clean sheet of the season. RIT has now won three straight contests.
Shots were 28-7 in favor of the Tigers, who fired 14 shots on net. RIT took eight corner kicks to three for the Blue Devils.
Sienna Fisher (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) played all 90 minutes in net for the Tigers, making three saves. Kendall Owczarzak took the loss in net for Fredonia, making 13 saves.
RIT had its chances early in the first half, including two chances from
Emily Thiel (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) that Owczarzak stopped. The Tigers finally broke through in the 35th minute when Alur took a feed from Thiel and buried a shot into the net for her first collegiate goal. Thiel now has four points over her last two games.
The Tigers had plenty of chances to extend the lead in the second half, but Owczarazak was equal to the task.
Danielle Losquadro (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) had a chance midway through the half, but her header hit off the crossbar and out of danger.
With the win, RIT is 7-3-3 all-time versus SUNY Fredonia.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 when they host Nazareth College at 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
