BROCKPORT, NY -- The RIT women's tennis team picked up its first dual win of the season with a 7-2 victory over SUNY Brockport Friday afternoon. The TIgers swept doubles competition, and won four-of-six singles matches.
In doubles, the team of
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Gianna Heaviland (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito) deafeated Sarah Mensah and Kelsey Shanahan, 9-7 at the first position.
Brianna Dimisko (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) and
Taylor Thum (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramp) defeated Zoe Sharo and Autumme Ventura, 8-5 in second doubles.
Jessica Coombs (Dansville, NY/Dansville) and
Diana Kulawiec (Fairport, NY/Fairport) were victorious in third doubles, defeating Faith Montgomery and Elizabeth Bean, 8-6.
Dimisko beat Sharp, 6-3, 6-3 in third singles, and Thum beat Venturinom 6-1, 6-0 in fourth singles, while Kulawiec beat Montgomery, 6-1, 6-1 in fifth singles. Val Luttman beat Bean in sixth singles, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17 when the TIgers face Bard College in the Elmira Invitational at 2 p.m. RIT will also take on Elmira later in the day.
