Women's soccer erupts for four goals in decisive win over Franklin College

DALLAS, PA -- The RIT (2-1-1) women's soccer team rebounded from its first loss of the season on Saturday, with a 4-2 win over Franklin College (3-2-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Misericordia Tournament. Anka Parzych (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) led the Tigers with two goals, while Erin Butler (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and Elena Wolfe (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) also scored.

Shots were 18-12 in favor of RIT, who fired nine shots on net. Each team took six corner kicks. Kelly Rogers (Ardmore, PA/Haverford) got the start in net for RIT and played the first 45 minutes earning her second win of the season. Sienna Fisher (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) played the second half for RIT, making a save. Jessica Young took the loss for Franklin, making five saves.

Franklin got the scoring going early, tallying in the third minute. Maddie Fleet gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead on her goal just 2:24 into the contest.

"We worked hard today," said RIT head coach Liz Masterson. "Franklin was a dangerous side all the way to the end, and closed out the game well. We learned a lot this weekend about ourselves, and I'm happy with how we responded."

Butler got RIT on the scoreboard with her first collegiate goal in the 30th minute. That goal seemed to spur the Tigers on, as they began to open up the offense. Parzych gave the Tigers their first lead of the game just 1:32 later, when she scored off an assist from Monique Polanco (Merrick, NY/John F. Kennedy).

Parzych would tally again late in the first half. She took a cross from Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) who spotted Parzych on the back post and sent a service into the Franklin penalty area. Parzych scored her second of the half to give the Tigers a two-goal lead at halftime.

RIT kept up the pressure on into the second half, as Saia and Emily Thiel (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) both had shots whistle just wide of the post. After a Grizzlies penalty inside their own box gave Wolfe a chance from the spot, the senior captain he stepped up and scored in the 60th minute to give RIT a 4-1 lead.

Kelsey Brunsman added a late goal for the Grizzlies to make it a 4-2 final. RIT fell to host Misericordia on Saturday by a score of 2-0.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 14 when they host St. John Fisher College at 4 p.m. on the grass field at Tiger Stadium.
