ROCHESTER, NY - Senior Sarah Szybist (Colorado Springs, CO/Ramstein) became the university's all-time leader in kills, as the RIT volleyball team (6-3) split a pair of matches at the Marcia French Tournament hosted by Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday. The Tigers lost the opening match in three sets to the hosts and rebounded to defeat Mount Union University (5-2) in five sets.

With her 34 kills in the match against Mount Union, Szybist ends the day with 1,998 kills. She broke the all-time record of 1,977, held by 2014 RIT Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee Tracy Wilt, who played from 1995-98. It was also her third match with at least 30 kills this season. Szybist, who recorded 105 kills in the four matches, was named to the Marcia French All-Tournament Team.

Versus Mount Union, RIT won the first two sets 27-25 and 25-22, before dropping the next two sets, 25-19 and 27-25. The Tigers rebounded with a resounding 15-9 win in the fifth and deciding set.

"We competed much better most of this match and fought through the streaks," said RIT head coach Jim Lodes. "I feel that when we believe in our process, we do some really great things. I look forward to working hard this week to be ready for our first Liberty League matches next weekend."

In the opener on Saturday , the Tigers fell in three sets to Baldwin Wallace, 25-11, 25-20 and 26-24. Baldwin Wallace hit .296 to just .087 for RIT. Szybist led with 17 kills and two service aces, while Parkinson added 27 assists and Valentine had seven digs.

Yesterday, the Tigers split a pair of hard-fought five-set marathons, falling to Case Western Reserve, while defeating Denison.

RIT is back in action next weekend as they host the Liberty League crossover. The Tigers take on St. Lawrence at 4 p.m. and Clarkson at 8 p.m. from Clark Gym.
