Women's soccer loses first game of season on the road at Misericordia

DALLAS, PA -- The RIT (1-1-1) women's soccer team lost 2-0 at Misericordia University Saturday afternoon. It was the first loss of the season for the Tigers.

Shots were 17-5 in favor of the Cougars. Each team fired two shots on net. The Tigers took three corner kicks to four for Misericordia. Sienna Fisher (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) got the start in net for RIT, while Kelly Rogers (Ardmore, PA/Haverford) played the second half. Alyssa Pojero got the win for the Cougars, making two saves.

One of RIT's best scoring chances came late in the half when Diane Torres (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) played a ball into the Misericordia penalty area. Anka Parzych (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) made the run into the box, but was cut off by a Cougars defender before she could get a shot off.

Misericordia broke through in the 36th minute when Ashley Edgell scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon. She took a service in from Hannah Larkin and scored first-time into the far corner to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

Sami Alur (Fremont, CA/Irvington) had a chance late in the half off a corner kick. She gathered the service in and fired the Tigers first shot on net for the half.

RIT came out with more fire in the second half, creating some momentum going forward. Early in the half, Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) got free down the flank and sent a ball into the Misericordia penalty area fowards Parzych. She tried to volley it off the service and it went just wide of the target. Parzych had another chance with a little over 32 minutes to play off a service from Danielle Losquadro (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun), but Pojero was on her near post and made the save.

Misericordia made it 2-0 on Edgell's second goal of the game. larkin once again had the assist on the play.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, when they face Franklin College at 12 p.m.
