WEST POINT, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (4-7, 1-3 Liberty League) won its first Liberty League contest of the 2015-16 season, shutting out Bard (2-9, 0-5 Liberty League) 9-0 at the U.S. Military Academy Sunday morning.
Starting the meet at first doubles, the team of
Gianna Heaviland (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito) and
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) defeated Bard's Harriette Slagle and Lily Schwartz 8-2 to set the tone. In the second match,
Brianna Dimisko (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) and
Alyssa Hering (Albion, NY/Kendall) found themselves in a battle, just coming out on top 8-6 against Amelia Tiemann and Isabelle Scarborough.
Marie Jubert (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and
Kelsie Redburn (Byram, NJ/Pope John XXIII) won the third doubles match 8-0 to complete the sweep.
RIT breezed through singles play, winning every contest in straight sets.
Brianna Dimisko (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) had an impressive fourth singles match against Bella Martinez, shutting her out 6-0, 6-0. Redburn won her team-leading fifth singles match of the season, prevailing over Lily Zacharias 6-4, 6-3. Heaviland finished off RIT's first sweep of an opponent this season, beating Tiemann 6-3, 6-2.
The Tigers will return to non-conference play on Monday, taking on local foe Nazareth on the road at 4 p.m.
