ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY -- The RIT (6-8, 3-4 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team scored 11 first-half goals en route to a 14-3 win over Bard College (4-10, 0-6 Liberty League) on Saturday. With the win the Tigers completed a sweep of road games this weekend, outscoring their opponents 27-14.
Shots were 25-8 in favor of RIT, who won the ground ball battle, 24-18. The Tigers won 10-of-19 draw controls, and went 11-of-12 on clearing attempts. RIT missed its lone free position attempt, but caused 17 turnovers.
Sage Sarkis (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) led RIT with six points on five goals and an assist.
Corrina Mandell (Corning, NY/Corning East) tallied four points on two goals and two assists, and
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) and
Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) each scored a pair of goals. Ward, along with
Mariah Hettel (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) each caused three turnovers. Hettel finished with a goal and an assst and grabbed four ground balls.
Kristina Glitch (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) scored a goal and had four ground balls, while Sarkis and Mandell each won three draw controls.
Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) got the win in net.
Marion Adams gave Bard an early lead on her goal just 33 seconds into the game. The Tigers took control from there, rattling off seven straight goals. Sarkis tied the game on her goal off an assist from Mandell at 28:02. She scored two of RIT's first seven goals, while Livecchi, Mandell, Ward, Glitch and Hettel also scored. Ward's second goal of the game at 18:49 off an assist from
Sydney DaCosta (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) extended the RIT lead to 8-1.
After a Bard goal cut the RIT lead to 8-2, the Tigers ended the half on a 3-0 run, taking an 11-2 lead on Sarkis' fourth goal of the half with 6:46 to play. Sarkis, Livecchi and DaCosta scored goals in the second half as RIT cruised home for the win.
RIT has won two straight, and three of its last five games. The Tigers return to action on Friday, April 29 when they host Skidmore at 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
