POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- The No. 2 RIT (13-1, 6-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a convincing 21-8 win at Vassar College (7-7, 2-3 Liberty League) on Saturday afternoon.
Chad Levick (Newmarket, Ontario/The Hill Academy) tallied four points, giving him 100 for his career at the university.
RIT led 7-1 after the first quarter, and 14-4 at hafltime. The Tigers led 16-6 after the third quarter, and tallied five times in the fourth qaurter for the 21-8 final. Shots were 44-21 in favor of the Tigers who won the ground ball battle, 38-15. RIT won 26-of-34 face-offs and went 13-of-19 on clearing attempts.Â
Drew Tosaya (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) led a balanced Tigers offense with five points on three goals and two assists. Levick finished with four points on three goals and an assist, while
Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) tallied two goals and dished out a pair of assists. In all, 14 different Tigers scored goals, including
Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) and
Luke Henderson (Hespeler, ON/St. Benedict's Catholic) who each tallied their first collegiate goals.Â
Levick becomes the 46th player to score 100 career points in Tigers history. Lee moves into sixth place all time in scoring with 234 career points, and fourth all time with 152 career goals.
Jarryd Lee (Melbourne, Australia/St. Leonards), who improved to 7-1 on the season, got the win in net, making eight saves.
Jon Berg (Chester, NJ/Mendham) played the final 15 minutes and made two saves.
Steven Ricci (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) won 12-of-14 face-offs and grabbed nine ground balls.
Brandon Buscaglia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) won 11-of-17 draws, while
Matt Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry) caused two turnovers, grabbed four ground balls and scored a spectacular goal.
James Thomas led Vassar with four points on two goals and two assists. Noah Parson tallied two goals, and Matthew Boyd took the loss in net making eight saves.
Vassar got on the board first when James Thomas broke free and scored at the 12:40 mark of the first quarter. But, the Tigers offense woke up, rattling off seven straight goals in the quarter and 12 in a row over an 18 minute span. Levick opened the scoring on his 36th goal of the season off an assist from
Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) at the 12:05 mark of the quarter. He would score three times in the first quarter for the Tigers.
Kyle Sterzin (Fairport, NY/Fairport),
Jay Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Hossack and
Dan LoBosco (South Salem, NY/John Jay) also scored in the quarter. Hossack's goal was a spectacular under-handed, behind-the-back shot from in close that extended the RIT lead to 5-1.
RIT scored the first five goals of the second quarter, opening up a 12-1 lead on Lee's second goal of the quarter off an assist from Levick with 9:49 to play in the half. Tosaya,
Trevor Smyth (Orangeville, Ontario/The Kiski School) and
Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) also scored for RIT.
Aidan Milburn (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary) and
Brendan MacDonald (Georgetown, ON/Trinity-Pawling) scored for the Tigers late in the quarter to give RIT a 14-4 lead at the half.
Tosaya scored RIT's two goals in the third quarter, the second coming off an assist from Milburn with 1:17 to play in the quarter.
Reid Swier (Red Deer, Alberta/Rimbey), Nally,
John Hill (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Henderson all scored in the fourth quarter. Nally scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Hill at the 9:59 mark, while Henderson tallied his firs goal off a feed from
Alex Bodin (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best) with 2:40 to play.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, April 26 when the Tigers face arch rival and No. 19 ranked Nazareth College at 4 p.m. in Pittsford, N.Y.Â
