Women's tennis falls to Hamilton in non-conference contest

HAMILTON, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (3-7) returned to the courts after a two week absence, falling to Hamilton (11-2) on the road by a score of 9-0 Saturday morning.

Opening up the contest in first doubles, Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Gianna Heaviland (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito) fought valiantly, but fell to Hamilton's Samantha Weeks and Claire Keyte, 8-6. The Continentals then finished off the doubles sweep, winning the final two matches by an 8-0 score. In singles play, Ying battled with Jane Haffer at first singles, but fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Kelsie Redburn (Byram, NJ/Pope John XXIII) took six games in her match against Mei Lin Pratt, but fell by a 6-2, 6-4 score as Hamilton completed the sweep.

The Tigers will return to Liberty League play, taking on Bard tomorrow at 9 a.m. The contest will be played at the U.S. Military Academy's Lichtenberg Center in West Point, N.Y.
