OSWEGO, NY – The RIT (1-2) women's lacrosse team suffered its second straight loss with an 18-7 defeat at Oswego State (1-1) on Saturday afternoon.
Oswego State led 8-3 at the half, and out scored RIT 10-4 in the second half to earn the win.
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led the Tigers with three goals.
Sage Sarkis (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) had a goal and two assists, while
Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) added a goal and an assist.
Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) each scored for the Tigers, who were out shot 35-26.
Ground balls were 10-9 in favor of the Lakers, while the Tigers won 16-of-26 draw controls. RIT went 6-of-10 on clearing attempts and were 1-for-4 on free position attemtps.
Kristina Glitch (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and Bingo each had a pair of ground balls, while Sarkis had six draw controls. Hughes took the loss in net, making six saves. Sophia Wajnovich played the final 24:18 and made one save.
Teresa Shattuck led Oswego State with seven points on four goals and three assists. Gemma O'Kane tallied three goals and had two assists, while Emily Lange added three goals. Angela Ponto picked up the win in net for the Lakers, making nine saves.
Early in the first half, RIT kept the game close. After a Shattuck goal made it 1-0, Lakers, Livecchi tied the game at 1-1 with her first goal of the game at the 28:20 mark. The Lakers would score four straight goals, taking a 5-1 lead on Kelsey Henderson's goal with 10:49 to play in the half.
Livecchi scored off an assist from Sarkis with 10:12 to play, cutting the Oswego State lead to 5-2. The Lakers rattled off three more goals, before Ward scored with one second on remaining on the clock, making it 8-3 Oswego State at halftime.
Sarkis made it a five-goal deficit with her goal early in the second half, but the Lakers ran off three straight goals, taking a 12-4 lead on Shattuck's fifith of the season with 18:02 to play.
The Tigers scored two straight midway through the half when Bingo scored at 15:35 to make it 13-6. Then, with RIT a player down, Hughes cleared the ball on her own and scored when no Laker defender came to pick her up. It was her first career goal and cut the Oswego State lead to 14-7.
The Lakers pulled away late tallying the final five goals of the game to make it an 18-7 final.
RIT is back in action on Tuesday, March 15 when they face Nazareth College for a non-conference contest that gets underway at 4 p.m. in Pittsford, N.Y.
