PITTSFORD, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (2-4, 0-2 Liberty League) opened Liberty League play for the Spring season, falling to Vassar (4-1, 2-0 Liberty League), 9-0, at the Mendon Racquet and Pool Club on Saturday afternoon.
After falling in first doubles, 8-1, RIT fought valiantly in the final two doubles matches. The team of
Marie Jubert (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and
Kelsie Redburn (Byram, NJ/Pope John XXIII) fell, 8-4, while Alyssa Herring and
Brianna Dimisko (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) fell to Vassar's Kelsey Van Noy and Lauren Stauffer, in a close 8-5 match.
In the singles matches,
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) competed in her first collegiate match at fourth singles. She fell to Vassar's Kate Christensen in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Jubert also picked up six points in a 6-4, 6-2 loss at third singles.
The Tigers will continue league play with a road matchup against William Smith on March 5 at 11 a.m.
