ROCHESTER, NY – The No. 2 seed RIT women's basketball team will host its first postseason game in its 29-year history on Wednesday, February 24 when they host No. 3 Union College in the Liberty League Semifinal at 6 p.m. The winner will face the victor between No. 1 Clarkson and No. 4 St. Lawrence in the title game on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the highest remaining seed. Admission to Wednesday's game is free.
RIT comes into Wednesday 19-6 overall and finished second in the Liberty League standings with a 12-4 conference record. Union enters Wednesday 17-7 overall and was third in the league with an 11-5 record. Wednesday will mark the third meeting between RIT and Union, and second in four days. Sunday, Union defeated RIT 69-59 in Schenectady, N.Y.
Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) led the Tigers with 23 points, while
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) tallied 12 points and
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) added 11 points.
The Dutchwomen hold a 12-7 record all time versus RIT. The two teams split its regular season meetings, with each team winning on its home court. On January 12, RIT beat the Dutchwomen 73-60 at Clark Gym.
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) led the Tigers with 25 points, while Sophie Borg led Union with 22 points.
RIT comes into the tournament first in the league in scoring, averaging 69.9 points per game. The Tigers are second in the league in field goal percentage (41.4 percent), second in 3-point shooting percentage converting 32.2 percent, and is tied for first in 3-point field goals made, averaging 6.6 per contest.
Glaz leads the team and is fourth in the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game. She set the single season scoring record (407 pts.) on Sunday, surpassing the previous mark of 403 points set in 1998-99 by RIT Athletics Hall of Fame member Amie Banis. Glaz leads the league in free throw percentage (86.3 percent), and 3-point field goal percentage, hitting 34.5 percent of her attempts.
Freshman
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton), a six-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week selection, is seventh in the league in scoring (15.4 points per game) and leads the league shooting 51.9 percent from the floor.
Maria Edwards (Forrest Hill, MD/The Carroll School) is fourth in the conference in assists (3.8 per game), while
Julia Bender (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) is twelfth in the league in rebounding (6.6 per game) and tenth in the Liberty League in steals (1.6 per game).
Union (17-7, 11-5 Liberty League) comes into Wednesday seventh in the league in scoring, averaging 61.8 points per game, and is the top team defensively, allowing 53.0 points per game. The Dutchwomen lead the league in field goal percentage (42.7 percent) and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (29.2 percent).
Natalie Leone leads Union and is 14th in the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 10.2 points per game. She is second in the league, shooting 81.5 percent from the foul line and is tenth in assists, averaging 2.9 per contest. Abby Katz is second on the team and 15th in the conference in scoring, averaging 10.0 points and tenth in rebounding, grabbing 7.0 per game.
