Women's basketball to host two critical Liberty League contests at Clark Gym

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's basketball team will host two crucial Liberty League games this weekend on the floor of Clark Gymnasium. The Tigers host St. Lawrence University (15-6, 8-4 Liberty League) on Friday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m., and host Clarkson University (17-4, 10-2 Liberty League) on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. Both games are free and open to the public.

RIT comes into this weekend with a 17-4 overall record and are tied with Clarkson for the Liberty League lead at 10-2. The 17 wins is a program-record for the Tigers, breaking the old mark of 15 set in 2006-07. St. Lawrence is 15-6 overall and third in the Liberty League standings with an 8-4 conference record.

The Tigers come into this weekend winners of seven straight games after a sweep at Bard and Vassar last weekend. RIT led Bard by 20 at halftime and held on for a 58-51 win on Friday. Jess Glaz led RIT with 17 points; five rebounds and six assists, while Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) and Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) each tallied 10 points. Saturday, Lynch tallied 22 points, while Glaz added 20 points and 13 rebounds in a 73-58 win at Vassar.

RIT comes into the weekend first in the league and 38th in Division III in scoring, averaging 71.9 points per game. The Tigers lead the league converting 32.5 percent of their 3-point field goals, and are second in 3-point field goals made, averaging 6.6 per contest.

Glaz leads the team and is third in the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 16.8 points per game. She leads the league and is 18th in all of Division III in free throw percentage (86.7 percent), and leads the conference hitting 35.9 percent of her 3-point field goals. Lynch is sixth in the league in scoring (15.7 points per game) and leads the league and is 41st in Division III shooting 53.0 percent from the floor. Maria Edwards (Forrest Hill, MD/The Carroll School) is second in the conference in assists (3.8 per game), while Julia Bender (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) is tenth in the league in rebounding (7.0 per game) and tied for eighth in the Liberty League in steals (1.8 per game).

Clarkson comes into the weekend third in the league in scoring, averaging 65.6 points per game, and are second defensively, allowing 56.8 points per game. The Golden Knights are fourth in field goal percentage (39.2 percent) and sixth in three point field goal percentage (29.1 percent).

Ashley Loggins leads Clarkson and is third in the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game. She leads the league averaging 4.0 steals per game and is second in rebounding, averaging 10.4 caroms per game. Devin Sorrell is eighth in the league in scoring (15.3 points per game), and is second in 3-pt. field goals percentage (34.4 percent).

St. Lawrence enters the weekend fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 64.0 points per game, while the Saints are third defensively, allowing 58.5 points per game. The Saints are first in 3-point. field goals made, averaging 6.6 per contest, and second hitting 32.1 percent of their 3-point field goals.

Lauren Quattrocchi leads the league in assists averaging 6.3 per game. She is fourth in the league in steals, swiping 2.4 per game. Cara Weston leads the Saints and is 14th in the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 10.7 points per game. Caroline Dalton is seventh in the league in blocks (0.8) and is 20th in the league in scoring (9.5).

Clarkson is 23-11 all time versus RIT, including a 74-65 win in Potsdam in January. Lynch led RIT with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Loggins led Clarkson with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Saints are 27-3 all time versus RIT. These two teams last met in January in Canton, with the Saints winning 65-57. Glaz tallied 25 points to lead the Tigers, while Kaelyn Kohlasch tallied 15 points to pace the Saints.
