ITHACA, NY -- The RIT wrestling team placed eighth at the Ithaca Invitational. The Tigers finished eighth out of 11 teams with a team score of 47.5 points. Ithaca College won the competition with 173.5 points. Senior
Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion) placed third in the 141 pound weight class.
On Friday, Sepor advanced to the second round with a bye, and moved onto the quarterfinals with a pin of Ryan Dominique just 53 seconds into their second-round match. Saturday, Sepor defeated Chris Wymer of Ithaca with a pinfall at 1:15 in the quarterfinals. He was defeated by Joseph Ferinde from Johnson and Wales in the semifinals, 5-3. Sepor responded with a pin of Evan Corso at 6:09 of the consolation semifinals to advance to the third-place match. In that match, Sepor defeated Dylan Van Sickell from Stevens with a 12-8 decision.
Friday, Nick Greenquist defeated Ryan Errico of Springfield at 184 lbs. with a technical fall at 6:06 in his first round match. at 184-.lbs. He advanced to the championship round with a pin of Nick Normile from SUNY Oswego at 2:16. Saturday, Greenquist was defeated Joseph Kennedy from Norwich in the quarterfinals, 7-4. He fell to Connor Sheehan in the consolation round, 5-4.
Isaiah Ocasio (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) advanced to the quarterfinals at 133
lbs. with a technical fall win over Eric Wall of New England College in his opening bout on Friday. He went on to beat Stephen Masi of Rhode Island College in the second round, 3-1 in sudden victory. Saturday, Ocasio won an 8-5 decision over Yoseph Borai of Stevens in the quarterfinals. He lost 11-2 to Ian Tolotti in the semifinals, before losing to Jacob Forsman and Zak Rainess in the fifth-place match.
Cole Murphy (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) defeated Alejandr Theraureaux of SUNY Oswego with a fall at 2:18 in his first match at 141 lbs. Friday. He advanced to the quarterfinals with a technical fall victory over Thomas Mountain of Rhode Island College in the second round. On Saturday, Murphy fell in the quarterfinals and lost in his consolation match.
Sam Weinger (Blooming Grove, NY/Washingtonville), who wrestled at 285 lbs., won both his matches by pin on Friday evening, before sitting out Saturday due to injury.
Tommy Follman (Albion, NY/Albion) and
Dan Lucey (Massapequa, NA/Massapequa) both advanced in the consolation round at 165 lbs, having finished 1-1 on Friday. Follman lost in the opening round, but knocked off Tim Caplan of Rhode Island College via pin for his first collegiate victory. Lucey earned a major decision victory over Jason Powell of Western New England. Both wrestlers were eliminated early on Saturday.
Joe Messare (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills) also advanced at 197 lbs. on Saturday after a victory over Ryan Jachim of Stevens by pin in 49 seconds to end Friday's action. Messare picked up a second win on Saturday before bowing out.
Connor Wilkins (Livonia, NY/Livonia),
Andrew Flanagan (Holley, NY/Holley),
Ryan Keefe (Charlotte, NC),
Colby Hall (Deposit, NY/Deposit), and
Evan Vershay (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) all recorded one win apiece in the consolation round before being eliminated.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 12 when the Tigers face SUNY Oswego at 1 p.m. in Oswego, N.Y.
