ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's basketball team (4-0) led by 21 points after one quarter en route to a resounding 87-49 win over Allegheny College (1-3) in non-conference action from Clark Gym Monday evening.
The Tigers allowed a season-low five points in the first quarter and season-low 21 first half points.
"Our defense continues to dictate our offense," said RIT head coach
Amy Reed. "We talked about handling their pressure and making (Allegheny) put it on the floor. It was a good win for us."
Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) led RIT with 16 points, while
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) added 15 points and seven rebounds.
Ashlynn Palmitesso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) added 10 points off the bench for the Tigers who shot 50.7 percent from the floor. The Tigers made 7-of-17 from behind the arc, and went 10-of-16 from the foul line.
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) tallied six points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Michela Contestabile led Allegheny with 12 points and eight rebounds. Maia Joiner added nine rebounds, while Alivia Barkley scored eight points for the Gators who shot 25.7 percent from the floor.
RIT led 26-5 at the end of the first quarter, and were up 44-21 at halftime. The Tigers scored 27 points in the third quarter to extend their lead to 71-34 after 30 minutes. The Tigers scored 16 points in the fourth quarter to cruise home for the 38-point win.
RIT came out strong in the opening quarter, tallying the first 14 points of the game. The Tigers did not allow Allegheny a bucket until the 3:31 mark of the quarter, allowing a season-low five points.
The Tigers extended their lead to as many as 31 points in the second quarter, eventually leading 44-21 at the half. RIT led by as many as 40 points in the third quarter, scoring 11 points off of Allegheny turnovers.
The Tigers scored 34 points off of 28 Allegheny turnovers, 38 points in the paint, and had 19 second-chance points.
All 12 RIT players who saw the floor scored at least one point.
Sydney Frank (Haverford, PA/Friends' Central) had five points, three assists, and three steals, while
Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/St. Margaret's) added eight points.
RIT returns to action on Friday, Dec. 2 when they face Nazareth College in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Challenge. That game tips off at 6 p.m. on the campus of St. John Fisher College.
