Box Score LOS ANGELES, CA -- The RIT (3-0) women's basketball team wrapped up its California trip in convincing fashion Sunday with a 91-46 win over Whittier College (0-2) at the Occidental College Women's Basketball Tournament. Eleven different Tigers scored, led by
Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy), who finished with a game-high 25 points.
The Tigers broke a school record by scoring 59 second half points in breaking the game wide open. RIT led 32-25 at halftime and outscored Whittier 59-22 over the final 20 minutes. RIT scored 56 points in the first half of a win over Buffalo State on Dec. 11, 2015.
RIT shot 47.5 percent from the floor on 28-of-59 shooting. The Tigers made 11-of-24 from behind the arc, and went 24-of-35 from the foul line.The Tigers led 17-13 after the first quarter, and 32-25 at the break. RIT turned it on in the third quarter, outscoring the Poets 32-12 to lead 64-37 after three quarters. The Tigers cruised home in the fourth quarter, scoring 27 points for the 91-47 win. "We had trouble finding an offensive flow in the first two games despite winning those games," said RIT head coach
Amy Reed. "So we made a few adjustments and were really able to get contributions from a lot of people tonight."
Glaz led RIT with 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including three, 3-pointers.
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) went 8-for-8 from the field for 18 points to go along with six rebounds.
Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/St. Margaret's) came off the bench to score 11 points, while
Julia Bender (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) tallied nine points, going 6-of-8 from the foul line.
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) scored nine points and dished out three assists.
RIT's defense was stout on Sunday, holding Whittier to 47 points, including 22 in the second half. The Tigers had 11 steals on the game, led by
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy), who had four.
"I truly think our defense fueled our offense," said Reed. "We did not let them get more than 15 points in a quarter, and that was huge. It was a great win and a good step for us in terms of feeling better about our offense."
RIT returns to action on Monday, Nov. 28 when the Tigers play their first home game of the season, hosting Allegheny College at 6 p.m.
