Women's tennis drops Liberty League opener to William Smith

GENEVA, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (4-2, 0-1 Liberty League) dropped its 2016-17 Liberty League opener, falling to William Smith College (1-0, 1-0 Liberty League) by a score of 7-2 at the Hobart/William Smith Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.

The Herons swept all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles. At first singles, Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) earned a tough three-set win over Hannah More of William Smith, taking the first set 6-1, before More fought back to win set two, 6-1. Ying took the third set in a romp, 6-0.

At sixth singles, Valerie Luttman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Morgan Hamre for RIT's second point.

That match concludes the fall season for the Tigers, as they return to action in February, 2017.
