Men's soccer and SUNY Geneseo play to a scoreless tie

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (4-4-3) men's soccer team tied SUNY Geneseo (6-4-2) 0-0 on sunny Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. With the tie, RIT is 28-19-3 all time versus the Knights.

Shots were 21-15 in favor of RIT, who took two corner kicks to six for the Knights. Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) posted his fifth shutout of the season, making five saves. Dillon Med made eight saves in net for SUNY Geneseo.

"We played strong defensively," said RIT head coach Bill Garno. "This is good preparation for us heading into a big conference weekend."

RIT had its share of scoring chances in the first half. Alex Ptucha (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) had a chance in the ninth minute that Medd was able to stop. Anthony DeFeo (Rochester, NY /Hilton) had a chance in the 22nd minute, but again, Medd was there to make the stop.

Geneseo had a good chance in the 15th minute when Josh McIntosh and Matt D/Amico worked the give and go play with ball ending with D'Amico. His shot from 15 yards out was blocked away by the Tigers defense.

With time running out in the first half, Geneseo was whistled for a foul inside its own penalty area. RIT's Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) took the shot, but again, Medd was there to make the diving save. Dakota Kegler (Pavilion, NY/Pavilion) had a chance when the rebound came right to him, but his shot was blocked by Medd to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

DeFeo had a good chance in the second half, but his shot 56th minute from a sharp angle was saved by Medd.

Geneseo's best chance came with about eight minutes before full time when Bryan Wager beat his defender and fired a shot on net. The rebound came to Junsei Ro. He appeared to score, but was just off-side, negating the goal.

In the overtime Gene Sicoli (Commack, NY/Commack) had a shot from 10 yards out that looked to be headed for the top left corner, but it hit off the cross-bar and away. Tyler Hatch (Concord, NH/Tilton School) took a shot off the rebound, but put it over the net.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, October 8 when they face Union College at 2 p.m. in Schenectady, NY.
