ITHACA, NY -- The RIT (6-4-1) women's soccer team went on the road Tuesday afternoon at Ithaca College (6-1-2), losing to the Bombers 2-1.
Danielle Losquadro (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) scored the Tigers goal.
Shots were 25-8 in favor of Ithaca. The Tigers took four corner kicks to 11 for the Bombers. Despite the loss,
Kelly Rogers (Ardmore, PA/Haverford) was excellent in net for RIT, making nine saves. Stacey DiGiorgio got the win for Ithaca, making one save.
RIT generated some good pressure on the Ithaca defense in the first half, creating solid scoring chances.
Maxine Culhane (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) had a chance in the 15th minute when she fired a shot from 15 yards out that DiGiorgio had to tip over the cross-bar. With 17 minutes to play, first-year
Sami Alur (Fremont, CA/Irvington) fired a low shot on target, but DiGiorgio was there to make the stop.
Late in the half, Ithaca's Shoshana Bedrosian got free within shooting range and fired a shot. Luckily, a RIT defender was there to block the attempt away and keep the game scoreless at halftime.
The Bombers started to exert more pressure in the second half. Emma Oliver fired a shot from 15 yards out in the 51st minute that forced Rogers to make the stop. Ithaca broke through in the 52nd minute when Jocelyn Ravesi scored off an assist from DiGiorgio.
RIT kept fighting and tied the game in the 74th minute.
Elena Wolfe (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) sent the ball long down to
Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) out on the flank. She got free and spotted Losquadro making the run towards the far post. Saia hit Losquadro with a long diagonal pass. Losquadro fired first-time into the far corner tying the game at 1-1.
Ithaca battled back and took the lead in the 88th minute on Ravesi's second goal of the game off a rebound. Rogers seemed to have the ball, but Ravesi was there to poke the ball into the goal before Rogers could gather the ball.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when they host Liberty League foe Union College at Tiger Stadium. Kick-off is at 3 p.m.
