Women's soccer loses one-goal game at University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (7-8-1) women's soccer team hit the road Tuesday evening for a non-conference game at cross-town rival University of Rochester (4-6-5) from chilly Fauver Stadium. The Yellowjackets beat the Tigers 1-0 on a goal in the 45th minute.

Shots were 15-7 in favor of Rochester, who took eight corner kicks to two for the Tigers. RIT fired three shots on target, while Rochester steered four on net. Madilynne Lee got the win in net for Rochester, making three saves. Kelly Rogers (Ardmore, PA/Haverford) took the loss, making two saves.

Despite not scoring, RIT did generate some scoring chances. Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) tested Lee in the 21st minute with her shot on net. Mia White (Littleton, CO/Rocky Mountain Deaf School) had a chance in the 29th minute off a corner kick from Emily Thiel (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt). White's header went just wide of the target.

RIT's defense was tested in the latter stages of the half. The Tigers defense blocked a shot by Jorie Freitag in the 34th minute. The rebound came back to Freitag, and she fired a shot that Rogers turned aside. The Tigers defense came to the rescue again, blocking a shot by Dani Aceves. In the 37th minute, RIT's defense saved a shot by Rochester's Pamela Chan off the line to keep the game scoreless.

Just before halftime, Rochester finally broke through. Megan Runyan sent a corner into the RIT penalty area. The 50-50 ball came to Jean Chakmakas who headed the ball into the corner, giving the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead  just 51 seconds before the break.

In the second half, Danielle Losquadro (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) sent a ball towards the Rochester net. Riley Yankowich (Deerfield Beach, FL/Germantown Academy) got a head to the ball, sending a shot on net that Lee dove to stop. In the 65th minute, Emily Thiel (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) had a shot blocked at the top of the Rochester penalty area.
