Liz Masterson. "We did a lot of good things from box-to-box today, which helps get ready for the final stretch of the season."
After a scoreless first half, RIT generated a decent chance in the 51st minute off a free kick from just outside the Bard penalty area.
Caitlyn Daly (Glendora, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) sent the ball into the box and out to
Kerri Zalba (Mentor, OH/Kirtland) who fired a shot from 15 yards out just wide.
The Tigers sustained good pressure on the Bard defense in the opening moments of the second half. RIT finally broke through in the 58th minute on a goal from Byers.
Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) saw Byers at the top of the Bard penalty area and sent a pass that Byers hit first time, just clearing the outstretched hands of O'Brien to give the Tigers a lead.
Bard's best chance came with about 15 minutes to play in regulation when Dylan McDonald fired from 25 yards out that just missed the crossbar and out of play.
RIT improves to 5-0-0 all time versus Bard. The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 22 when they face St. Lawrence University at 3 p.m. in Canton, N.Y.
