SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — The RIT (6-3-1, 2-1-0 Liberty League) women's soccer team defeated Skidmore College (3-4-1, 0-3-1 Liberty League) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in a crucial league matchup at Wachenheim Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Tigers got on the board in the 50th minute, when sophomore Riley Yankowich (Deerfield Beach, FL/Germantown Academy) scored her second goal of the season, on a header in front off a feed from senior Caitlyn Daly (Glendora, CA/St. Lucy's Priory). The Tigers held the Thoroughbreds off the rest of the way.
"Today's game was hard fought, just as we expected it would be," saidRIT head coach Liz Masterson. "We had some excellent senior leadership that really willed us to the win."
Skidmore had nine shots, compared to RIT's four. Both teams fired four shots on target. Junior goalkeeper Kelly Rogers (Ardmore, PA/Haverford) recorded her third shutout of the season, stopping all four shots sent her way. Rogers and the Tigers defense held off all five corner kicks by Skidmore as well.
The all-time series between RIT and Skidmore is now knotted at 5-5.
The Tigers will return to play on Tuesday with a non-conference match at Ithaca, starting at 4 p.m.
