No. 20 RIT women's soccer picks up sixth straight shutout win, 6-0 over SUNY Fredonia

ROCHESTER, NY – The No. 20 RIT women's soccer team (6-0-1) earned its sixth straight shutout win on Saturday in a 6-0 victory over SUNY Fredonia (1-6-0) at rain-soaked Tiger Stadium. Anka Parzych (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) scored a pair of goals, while Elizabeth May (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), Courtney Hunt (Brockport, NY/Brockport), Paige Byers (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff) and Quincey Ornellas (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark) each scored for RIT.

The Tigers have not allowed a goal in a span of 583:15, a school record. RIT has set a school record by scoring 18 goals over its last three games and overall, have out-scored its opponents, 23-1 this season.

"I am happy how we were able to come out and have a really good first 45 minutes," said RIT head coach Liz Masterson. "In the second half, Fredonia made some adjustments and I am happy how our back four adjusted and helped get another clean sheet."

Shots were 28-5 in favor of the Tigers, who fired 15 shots on goal. RIT took eight corner kicks to six for the Blue Devils. Sienna Fisher (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg Area) picked up the win in net having to make just one save. RIT's defense ran its scoreless streak to 583 minutes, having not allowed a goal since the season-opener at Nazareth. Kendall Owczarazak took the loss for Fredonia, making nine saves.

RIT got on the board first, when Parzych tallied her first of the game and fourth of the season in the 19th minute off an assist from Caitlyn Daly (Glendora, CA/St. Lucy's Priory). Daly started the play taking three dribbles past her defender and centering a cross that Parzych ran onto and tapped home first time to give the Tigers an early lead.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead when May converted a penalty kick in the 29th minute. Monique Polanco (Merrick, NY/John F. Kennedy) was taken down inside the Fredonia penalty area, and May stepped up and drilled a shot into the net for her third goal of the season.

Courtney Hunt (Brockport, NY/Brockport) gave RIT a 3-0 lead with her goal in the 40th minute. Emily Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) sent in a service from 30 yards out that Hunt was able to run onto and head into the lower right corner for her third goal of the season.

Paige Byers (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff) took a pass from Lauren Chester (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) in the 42nd minute and tapped home the service for her first of the season, giving RIT a 4-0 halftime lead.

Shots were 18-0 in favor of RIT in the first half.

Parzych tallied her second of the game and fourth of the season in the 47th minute to give the TIgers a 5-0 lead. She took a pass from May, trapped it down and scored with her second touch.

Ornellas rounded out the scoring with her fifth goal of the season in the 75th minute. Gwen Neuhaus (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) sent in a lovely service off a corner kick. Elena Wolfe (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) got a head to the ball that went to Ornellas who scored into the open net for a 6-0 RIT lead.

The Tigers defense held Fredonia to just one shot on net.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23 when they host University of Rochester at 4 p.m. on the grass at Tiger Stadium.
