ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (2-7) defeated Nazareth College (4-11), 6-3 on Thursday afternoon from the Gordon Field House. The Tigers came away with the victory due to their perseverance, patience and aggressive point play. Overall, this match encompassed all of the strategy and skill that the team has been striving to implement.

The doubles lineup was
Sara Bjork (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) and
Paige Baker (Fairport, NY/Our Lady of Mercy),
Bridget Avery (Jackson, MI/Northwest) and
Gianna Heaviland (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito) at second doubles and to round it off,
Diane Wang (Ames, IA/Ames) and
Riane Reithel (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder) at the third doubles position. Bjork and Baker captured their third win as partners and maintained solid communication and tact throughout the match in order to attain the 8-6 win. Wang and Reithel also won their match, 8-3 and the duo worked cohesively and utilized smart ball placement in order to come out on top.

The singles lineup was Bjork, Heaviland, Wang, Baker, Reithel and
Marie Jubert (Fairport, NY/Fairport). Bjork dominated her opponent through the perfect combination of power and strategy in order to come away with an effortless 6-0, 6-2 win. Wang also won her match with a score of 6-1, 6-4 and remained calm and collected as she played a solid, consistent match. Baker battled in the first set of her match, and despite having to keep her energy up during long rallies, she won the first set 7-6 (5) in a tiebreak but came back strong in the second set, 6-0 in order to seal the deal. Lastly, Jubert won her match 6-3, 6-0 and took advantage of being able to end points at the net with strong volleys.

Next up for the Tigers is a contest against Liberty League opponent, Union College at noon on Saturday at the RIT Tennis Courts.
