MENDON, NY -
The RIT women's tennis team (1-6, 1-3 Liberty League) defeated Bard College (0-10, 0-4 Liberty League) in an impressive 9-0 shutout on Saturday at Mendon Tennis Center. The Raptors defaulted the third doubles and sixth singles matches and the Tigers took the rest of the points away from Bard as well through a remarkable combination of tact and talent. The squad has three matches next week; thus, this win could not have come at a better time for RIT.

RIT made some changes to the doubles roster that proved to be effective against Bard as RIT did not give up a single game. Sara Bjork (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Paige Baker (Fairport, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) played first doubles (8-0) and Riane Reithel (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder) and Diane Wang (Ames, IA/Ames) competed at second doubles (8-0). The Tigers succeeded at implementing their respective strategies, and ball placement, communication and consistency proved to be key. In addition, both of the matches were thrilling to watch due to RIT's ability to be aggressive at the net. Overall, both doubles pairings played cohesively on Saturday.

The singles lineup also experienced a significant amount of success on Saturday, hardly dropped any games. The lineup was as follows: Bjork (6-1, 6-0), Gianna Heaviland (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito) (6-1, 6-1), Wang (6-0, 6-0), Baker (6-0, 6-0) and Reithel (6-1, 6-1). Across the board all of the matches were full of season high numbers of aces and winners. The Tigers were truly able to take control of the pace of the match and ran their opponents side to side with down the line winners and volleys.

Next up for the Tigers as they seek to continue their winning streak is a home match at 4pm against Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
