POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The RIT women's tennis team had its 2014-15 season come to an end over the weekend, falling to regionally-ranked foes University of Rochester (8-7) and Vassar College (12-5, 5-1 Liberty League) by consecutive scores of 9-0. The Tigers finish the season with a 5-10 record, going 1-6 in Liberty League play.
On Friday, Rochester did not lose a set to the Tigers. At third doubles, the team of
Riane Reithel (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Diane Wang (Ames, IA/Ames) just missed in an 8-5 loss to Emily DePerrior and Mariana Flores Kim
On Sunday, Vassar, ranked No. 22 nationally, opened by taking all three doubles matches. In singles, Wang put up a great effort against Shayna Becker at third singles, falling 6-3 in the opening set, 6-3, before rebounding to win the second set, 7-6 (8-6). Becker would win the tiebreaker, 10-2. Vassar would close out the match by winning the next five singles matches.
It was the final matches for seniors Wang,
Sara Bjork (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs), and Margaret Barnstein. Wang led the team with eight singles wins in 2014-15. Wang led RIT with seven doubles victories, while Bjork added six.
