No. 1 RIT men's lacrosse scores 13 straight goals en route to 18-5 win at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The No. 1 RIT (15-0, 6-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team scored 13 straight goals en route to an impressive 18-5 win over Skidmore College (5-9, 1-5 Liberty League) in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Tigers are now unbeaten in their last 39 regular season games. Senior goalie Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell) became the all time winningest goalie in RIT history, picking up his 50th career victory.

Shots were 47-27 in favor of the Tigers, while RIT held a slight 38-20 ground ball edge, and cleared the ball 21-of-23 times. In all, 10 different Tigers scored at least one goal, while 12 players tallied at least one point. Senior Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) and Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) led RIT with six points apiece. Aquin tallied five goals and added an assist, while Warren scored two goals and dished out four assists. Senior Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) tallied three goals, and Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) tallied a pair of goals and added an assist.

Aquin is seventh all time in scoring with 209 career points and second with 164 career goals. He needs 13 goals to tie Chris Copeland for first all time in goals with 177. Warren is eighth all time in scoring with 209 career points and 100 career assists.

Aquin gave RIT an early 2-0 lead on consecutive goals to open the game. He scored 32 seconds into the contest, and struck again on an assist from Warren at 11:20 of the opening quarter.

Josh Trachtenberg got Skidmore on the scoreboard with 7:26 to play in the quarter off an assist from Kevin Lulvey. After a Kiesa goal made it 3-1, RIT, Cody Legaza and Trachtenberg scored consecutive goals for the Thoroughbreds, tying the score at 3-3 with 2:09 to play in the first quarter.

RIT, the highest scoring offense in all of Division III, exploded in the second quarter, tallying nine goals, taking a 12-3 lead into halftime. Aquin scored three of his six goals in that nine-goal barrage, while Lee added a pair. Johnston got in on the mix when he made a save, scooped up the ground ball, ran the length of the field and scored his second career goal with 13:06 to play, giving RIT a 4-3 lead. Kiesa, Mikey Gulasey (Medina, OH/Western Reserve Academy), and Zack Thompson (Orangeville, Ontario/Culver Academy) also scored in the quarter.

Shots were 17-13 in favor of RIT in the first half, including a 17-2 edge in the second quarter. Aquin led RIT with five goals, while Warren dished out three assists.

RIT tallied four goals in the fourth quarter, while the Tigers defense held the Thoroughbreds scoreless. Aquin, Alec Sulesky (Medina, OH/Medina), Kiesa and Warren scored for the Tigers in the quarter.

Mulvey finally broke the scoring draught for Skidmore, tallying off an assist from Legeza with 13:30 to play in the fourth quarter. RIT's defense held Skidmore scoreless over a 33:39 period. Sean Fosse added a fifth Skidmore goal with 6:42 to play, and Alex Bodin (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best) and Drew Tosaya (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) scored late for RIT.

Johnston made four saves and scored a goal. He is now 50-4 in his career with a .926 winning percentage. Jarryd Lee (Melbourne, Australia/St. Leonards) made three saves in 16 minutes of action, while Nick Nesbitt (Burlington, Ontario/Salisbuury School) played the final 4:23. Jake Quay (Latham, NY/Shaker) won 11-of-15 face-offs and had a ground ball. Matt Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry) grabbed eight ground balls, while the RIT defense caused 10 turnovers.

RIT improves to 4-0 all time versus Skidmore. They have scored in double figures all 15 games this season and have a 10-game stretch of scoring at least 15 goals. The Tigers lead all of Division I in scoring, averaging 18 goals per game.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 25 when the Tigers host Liberty League foe St. Lawrence University in the regular season finale. RIT will honor the class of 2015 prior to the 12 p.m. face-off at Tiger Stadium.
