GENEVA, NY - The RIT women's tennis team put up an admirable fight against Liberty League foe, William Smith College Wednesday afternoon, falling 8-1. The score was not indicative of the heart and the determination that the Tigers put fourth against the Herons.
Â
The doubles lineup consisted of
Sara Bjork (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) and
Paige Baker (Fairport, NY/Our Lady of Mercy),
Marie Jubert (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and
Kelsie Redburn (Byram, NJ/Pope John XXIII) at second doubles and
Riane Reithel (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Diane Wang (Ames, IA/Ames) at the third position. Reithel and Wang have been a consistent asset to the team, and work as a cohesive unit on the court. In fact, their 8-5 win was the only win of the day. The Tigers can always count on that duo to come away with a much needed win in order to get the momentum going for the singles portion of the contest.
Â
The singles lineup was Bjork,
Gianna Heaviland (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito), Wang, Baker, Reithel and Jubert. There were several close matches throughout the lineup, and the Tigers certainly did not go down without putting their all into each match. Both Bjork and Jubert had comebacks in their matches. Bjork battled back in the first set of her match before falling to her opponent, 7-5, 6-4, and Jubert made a comeback in her second set however she ultimately lost 6-3, 7-6 (3). Baker and Wang also had tight matches. Baker lost 6-2, 6-4 and Wang was defeated 6-4, 6-3. Although the Tigers did not capitalize in the singles matches, there were still many positive moments and points to be proud of.

Next up, the Tigers have a road match at the University of Rochester on Friday, starting at 4 p.m.
