No. 2 RIT men's lacrosse cruises to 20-2 win at Bard

KINGSTON, NY -- The No. 2 RIT men's lacrosse team improved to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League with an impressive 20-2 win over Bard College (2-5, 0-1 Liberty League) on Saturday afternoon at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, N.Y. With the win, the Tigers are now unbeaten in their last 33 regular season games.

Shots were 52-19 in favor of the Tigers, while RIT held a 30-22 ground ball edge, and cleared the ball 17-of-18 times. In all, 14 different Tigers scored at least one goal, while 17 players tallied at least one point. Kyle Sterzin (Fairport, NY/Fairport) led the Tigers with five points on two goals and three assists. Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) added four points on three goals and an assist, while Brad Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) dished out three assists. Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf), Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) and Zack Thompson (Orangeville, Ontario/Culver Academy) each scored twice. Josh Kemp (Couquitlam, British Columbia/Centennial), Ben Tackett (Butler, PA/The Kiski School), Garrett Eddy (Bowmanville, Ontario/St. Stephens) and Phil Spiridigloizzi (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) each tallied their first collegiate goals. Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell) got the win in net, making two saves in one quarter of action. Jarryd Lee (Melbourne, Australia/St. Leonards) made two saves, and Nick Nesbitt (Burlington, Ontario/Salisbuury School) made three saves. Jon Berg (Chester, NJ/Mendham) played the last 5:43 in net for the Tigers. Steven Ricci (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) went 6-of-8 on draws, and Spirdigloizzi was 13-of-17 with seven ground balls.

Mat Livermore and Blake Burnley scored the Bard goals. John Henry Glascock made 18 saves in net for the Raptors who faced the Tigers for the first time as a NCAA Division III program.

RIT led 5-2 after the first quarter and exploded for nine goals in the second quarter, taking a 14-2 lead at the half. The Tigers scored four goals in the third, and two in the fourth, while the defense held the Raptors scoreless over the final 37:09 of the game.

RIT opened the game with consecutive goals from Lee and Sterzin, taking a 2-0 lead on Sterzin's goal off an assist from Gillies with 14:33 to play. Livermore scored for Bard off an assist from Henry Blosfelds at the 13:15 mark, cutting the RIT lead to 2-1. After a Burnely goal cut the Tigers lead to 3-2, RIT got goals from Alex Sulesky and Lee to close out the opening quarter leading 5-2.

The Tigers blew the game open with a nine-goal explosion in the second quarter. Aquin scored two goals in the quarter, while Sterzin tallied a goal and three assists. Chad Levick (Newmarket, Ontario/The Hill Academy), Warren, Dave Shuster (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep), Spiridigloizzi and Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) also scored in the quarter.

John Hill (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), Eddy, Thompson and Tackett each scored for RIT in the third quarter. Tackett's goal with 3:03 to play in the quarter was RIT's lone man-up goal in five chances on the day. Thompson and Kemp scored the lone goals in the fourth quarter as RIT cruised home for the wn.

Eli Salama (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best) caused three turnovers for RIT, while Dan LoBosco (South Salem, NY/John Jay) caused two turnovers and grabbed three ground balls.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, April 1 when RIT hosts SUNY Geneseo at 4 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
