CLERMONT, FL - The RIT softball team (3-7) wrapped up play at the Dot Richardson Spring Games at the National Training Center with a pair of one-run wins on Wednesday. RIT defeated Carleton College (5-8) by a score of 4-3, then took down Oberlin College (1-8), 2-1.
In the opener against Carleton, RIT trailed 3-0 in the fifth and 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
McKenzie Martin (Deposit, NY/Deposit) reached on an error and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Alexa Farner (Gowanda, NY/Gownanda).
Amanda Cook (Royal Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast) would double to center field, scoring Martin to tie the game at 3-3.
Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) would single home Cook for the game-winning run.
Wolcott would go 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Alexandra Lunderman was 2-for-3.
Tori Blaker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) and Farner would score runs. On the mound,
Sierra Valentine (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) scattered 14 hits to allow three runs in the complete game win.
Against Oberlin,
Lauren Mahar (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) was sensational on the mound, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out six batters for her second win.
RIT would strike first in the second inning, as Wolcott singled moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lunderman and scored on a double to center field by
Emma Sarles (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park). The Tigers would add on their lead in the third inning, as
Amber Libby (Waterboro, ME/Massabesic) reached on an error and stole second base. She would come around to score on a groundout by Cook. Martin was 2-for-3 with a triple.
RIT is back in action on Tuesday, March 31 with a home doubleheader against Keuka College that gets underway at 5 p.m.
