BALTIMORE, MD -- The No. 2 RIT men's lacrosse team improved to 8-0 on the season with an impressive 21-11 win over No. 13 Middlebury College on Wednesday evening at legendary Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University. With the win, the Tigers are now unbeaten in their last 32 regular season games.
Shots were 55-46 in favor of the Tigers, while RIT held a 42-33 ground ball edge, and cleared the ball 20-of-25 times.
Chad Levick (Newmarket, Ontario/The Hill Academy) scored four goals and added two assists for the Tigers, while
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) had four goals and a helper.
Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) tallied six points on three goals and three assists, while
Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) had two goals and three assists.
Kyle Sterzin (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and
Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) each scored a pair of goals.
Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell) got the win in net, making 19 saves.
Steven Ricci (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) went 9-of-17 on draws, and
Matt Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry) had a goal and an assist, caused three turnovers and had five ground balls.
Jack Zelkowitz led Middlebury with three goals, while Tim Giarusso added a pair of goals. Will Ernst took the loss in net for the Panthers, making 14 saves.
RIT led 4-1 after the first quarter, and 11-4 at the half, thanks to a seven-goal outburst by the Tigers in the second quarter. RIT led 16-9 after the third quarter and cruised home in the fourth quarter for the 10-goal win.
Aquin, Warren, Sterzin and Levick each scored for RIT in the first quarter, including three straight to end the quarter. After Middlebury scored two straight, the Tigers rattled off five straight goals, taking a 9-3 lead on Levick's goal off a feed from Sterzin with 3:34 to play in the opening half.
Middlebury scored the first two goals of the third quarter and cut the RIT lead to 12-9, but the Tigers answered with five straight goals, taking a 17-9 lead on Levick's goal off a feed from Hossack late in the third quarter. The Tigers scored four goals in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
It was the first win for RIT over Middlebury in three games versus the Panthers. The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 28 when RIT faces Bard College at 12 p.m. at Dietz Field in Kingston, N.Y.
