CLERMONT, FL - The RIT softball team (1-5) dropped two contests at the Dot Richardson Spring Games at the National Training Center on Monday afternoon. Delayed by rain in the morning, RIT's games were pushed back several hours. RIT lost the opener to Buffalo State (3-4), 4-1, and fell to Elmhurst College (6-2), 19-4 in five innings.
In the first contest vs. Buffalo State, the game was scoreless until the sixth inning, when Buffalo State scored a pair of runs.
Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) would single in
Destiny Pacheco (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. Buffalo State would pull away with two more runs in the seventh.
Wolcott and
Tori Blaker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) had singles for the Tigers. On the mound,
Sierra Valentine (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) took the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs, while striking out four in the complete game.
In game two, RIT took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning, as
Emma Sarles (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) doubled in
Alexandria Lunderman (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and
Alexa Farner (Gowanda, NY/Gownanda). Elmhurst would respond by scoring 11 times in the top of the second inning. RIT would score two more runs in the third on back-to-back run scoring singles by Wolcott and
Amanda Cook (Royal Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast). Farner was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored, while Wolcott had two singles.
McKenzie Martin (Deposit, NY/Deposit) was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Elmhurst had 19 hits in the win, as five players had at least a pair of hits. Meg Griffin was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and four RBIs.
RIT is back in action Tuesday against Lawrence University at 1 p.m. and the University of Chicago at 3 p.m.
