Women's lacrosse picks up second win of the season with 14-11 victory over Morrisville

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (2-1) women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season, defeating Morrisville State (0-1) by a score of 14-11 on Friday afternoon at the RIT Turf Field. This was the first match up between the two schools, making RIT 1-0 all-time against the Mustangs.
 
Freshman Emily Livecch made her collegiate debut one to remember, leading the Tigers with seven points on four goals and three assists. Sage Sarkis (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) registered four points on three goals and one assist, while Corrina Mandell (Corning, NY/Corning East) had two goals and a helper. Maegan Schmauder (Franklin, MA/Franklin) and Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) each added two goals and Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) scored a goal and added an assist.
 
Shots were 30-19 in favor of RIT, while the Mustangs grabbed 17 draw controls to the Tigers 10. RIT took a 13-7 advantage in ground balls.
 
Senior Caitlin Conway (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) played the first half, making two saves. Sophomore Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) played the second half, making four saves to earn her first collegiate victory.
 
Morrisville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. Livecchi scored two unassisted goals driving from behind the net to tie the game at two apiece. Schmauder put in the third goal to give the Tigers the first lead of the game. The Mustangs would come back to tie the game two more times but were unable to take the lead on RIT.
 
Angela Marriott led Morrisville with three goals and one assist, while Hunter Waldau added three goals. Shelby Wood and Ally Zlinsky scored two goals apiece, while Megan Carlin netted one.
 
Scoring went back and forth the last ten minutes of the first half with neither team able to go on a run. The Tigers took a 8-7 lead into halftime.
 
The Mustangs came out strong in the second half, tying the game for the third time with 28:49 left in regulation.  Olsen scored off of a nice pass from Livecchi behind to take the final lead of the game.
 
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, March 17 when RIT hosts Nazareth with a start time of 4 p.m.
