ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 2 RIT men's lacrosse team will face two ranked opponents this week in No. 6 SUNY Cortland and No. 5 Cabrini College. The Tigers will face Cortland at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11 and Cabrini on Saturday, March 14 at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be played at the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University.
RIT enters Wednesday's game 3-0 on the season after a 23-3 win over the College at Brockport last Wednesday. Cortland comes into the week 1-1 on the season, while Cabrini is 3-1 in 2015.
Versus Brockport, the Tigers led 10-0 after the opening quarter, 15-0 at halftime, and 19-2 after three quarters of play. RIT received contributions up and down the lineup, as 13 different players scored goals and 19 had at least one point.
Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) led the way with five goals, including three man-up tallies.
Drew Tosaya (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) tallied a career high five points on three goals and two assists, while
Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) also had five points on a goal and four assists.
The Tigers come into the week averaging 17.33 goals per game. The Tigers are third in Division III in scoring, averaging 16.52 goals per game. RIT is outscoring its opponents 52-22 this season, and is 11-of-17 (64.7%) on man-up chances.
Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) leads the team in scoring with 14 points on nine goals and five assists.
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) is second with 13 points on seven goals and six assists, while
Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) is third with 10 points on two goals and eight assists.
Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell) has seen the majority of the minutes in net, posting an 8.44 goals against average, a .661 save percentage and 3-0 record.
Cortland is 1-1 on the season after a 10-6 victory over Albright College last Wednesday. Sophomore James Stavrakis scored a career high five points on three goals and two assists, while Zach Hopps added tallied three goals. Scott Tota got the win in net, making 11 saves.
Cortland is outscoring its opponents, 23-20. The Red Dragons are 2-for-8 on man-up opportunities, while holding opponents to four man-up goals in 14 chances. Hopps leads the team in scoring with nine points on six goals and three assists. Matt Rakoczy is second with six points, while James Stavrakis is third with five points. Pat Baldwin has taken the majority of Cortland face-offs, winning 73.3% (33-of-45) of his draws.
Cabrini comes into the week 3-1 overall and is outscoring its opponents 45-37. The Cavaliers, ranked fifth in this week's USILA Division III poll, defeated Dickinson 7-5 last Saturday. Mike Leyden led Cabrini with four points on two goals and two assists. Tyler Morrell got the win in net, making 16 saves.
Cabrini is just 1-of-11 on its man-up chances, while holding opponents to three man-up goals in 12 chances. Mike Leyden leads the team in scoring with 16 points on eight goals and eight assists. Evan Downey is second with nine points on seven goals and two assists, and Damian Sobieski is third with eight points on eight goals. Morrell has played the majority of the minutes in net, posting a 7.52 goals against average, a .589 save percentage and a 3-1 record.
Cortland is 20-15 all time versus RIT, but the Tigers have won two straight, including a 17-11 victory last season at the Carrier Dome. Lee led RIT with seven points on four goals and three assists, while
Casey Jackson (Victoria, BC/Claremont) tallied five goals. Rakozcy led the Red Dragons with three goals and two assists, while Tota the loss in net, making seven saves.
Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell) got the win for the Tigers, making 19 saves.
RIT and Cabrini have met just once, in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, with the Tigers coming out on top, 22-13. Aquin led the Tigers with six goals, while
Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) tallied eight points on four goals and four assists. Anthony DiSanzo led Cabrini with six goals. RIT trailed 8-7 in the third quarter, but outscored the Cavaliers 15-3 the rest of the way to advance in the tournament.
