ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (7-9-0) men's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Ithaca College (6-7-2) in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field on a windy and rainy Wednesday afternoon.
Shots were 8-5 in favor of the Tigers, who took 10 corner kicks to just one for the Bombers.
Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) got the start in net for RIT, taking the loss and making four saves.
Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) played the final 20 minutes and did not have to make a save. Zach Jacobsen got the win in net for Ithaca, making just one save.
The Bombers took advantage of the opening kick-off and scored just 39 seconds into the contest. Blair Carney tallied off an assist from Eric Hepler in the first minute to give the Bombers and early lead. Hepler took a pass out on the flank and fired a service into the RIT box. The ball came to Carney and he drilled a low shot from 15 yards out that found the back of the net.
RIT had a chance in the seventh minute when
Rueben Marquez (Williamson, NY/Williamson) fired a shot off a nice build-up from the back. Marquez took the ball first time and fired a volley that was headed for the net. But, Jacobsen came off his line and made the save.
Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) had a chance inside the final 11 minutes of the first half when
Cam Shipley (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) sent in a service from the flank. Kouroupas was making the run down the center, but the service was just over his head and away.
Early in the first half, RIT had a chance when
Gene Sicoli (Commack, NY/Commack) fired a shot from a service from Shipley. His shot from 10 yards out was just wide of the Ithaca net.
Scott Geyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) had a chance inside the last 24 minutes when the ball was looses inside the Ithaca box. He tried the volley a shot first time, but missed and Ithaca was able to clear the ball out of harms way.
RIT, who is among seven teams within six points of first place in the Liberty League standings, close out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Hobart College. Kick-off in Geneva, N.Y. is slated for 1 p.m.
