SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The RIT (3-6-0, 0-2-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team was defeated 2-0 at Skidmore College (6-2-0, 2-0-0 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Wachenheim Field on the campus of Skidmore College on Friday afternoon.
Shots were 9-5 in favor of Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds took two corner kicks to none for the Tigers.
Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) took the loss in net for RIT, making two saves. Eli Kisselbach got the win for Skidmore, making two saves.
Play was balanced in the first half with each team registering four shots as the two teams battled for possession in the midfield. The Thoroughbreds took control of play in the final stages of the half before finally pulling in front in the 39th minute through Tim Sullivan's first goal of the season. Brennan Mitolka swung a free kick toward the near post from the left wing and Sullivan got on the end of the cross, driving a header into the bottom corner.
Skidmore doubled its lead 4:06 into the second half. Ben Caples launched a long throw in that found its way through a crowd and onto the head of Ben Poole for the easy finish into an open goal.
RIT mounted a dangerous attack in the 73rd minute, as
Mike DiCola (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) drove his strike right into the hands of Thoroughbreds goalkeeper Eli Kisselbach. The Tigers did not generate another shot over the final 17 minutes of play, as Skidmore held on for the 2-0 win.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 when the Tigers face No. 7 Rensselaer at 5 p.m. in Troy, N.Y.
