PITTSFORD, NY – The RIT (6-4) men's swimming and diving team defeated Nazareth College (4-5) 175-123 in the final reagular season dual meet of the year. The Tigers won six individual races, both diving events, and one relay.
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) led the Tigers in diving action, taking first in both the one and 3-meter events with excellent scores of 315.45 and 336.60, respectively.
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) and Ben Hamilton finished out the top-three, with DePalo taking second in both and Hamilton third.
Samuel Shpuntoff (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) won the 100 and 200-meter freestyle with times of 54.83 and 2:01.12.
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) and
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) were the next two to finish in the 100-meter with times of 55.75 and 56.08 respectively. Steve Paine took second in the 200-meter freestyle, finishing in 2:02.49.
Brown and Facchine also finished in the top-two in the 50-meter freestyle. Brown finished in 24.76, while Facchine came in at 25.23.
Matthew Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) and
Alex Madar (Suffern, NY/Suffern) took first and second in both the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke. Butler took the top spot with times of 1:08.91 and 2:35.50, while Madar finished at 1:10.83 and 2:38.52.
In the 100-meter butterfly, Tom Regan finished first in 1:04.73, followed by
Spencer Hall (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) at 1:05.41. In relay action, Paine, Butler,
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North), and Brown set the pace in the 200-meter medley relay with a time of 1:53.60.
The Tigers will be back in action Feb. 18-21 for the UNYSCSA Championships in Webster.
