POTSDAM, NY – The RIT women's basketball team (8-10, 2-7 Liberty League) lost at Clarkson University (13-5, 6-3 LL) Friday evening, 75-40. The Golden Knights sweep the season series versus the Tigers, as RIT falls to 11-22 all time versus Clarkson.
RIT shot just 24.5 percent from the floor on 12-of-49 shooting. The Tigers were 2-of-11 from behind the arc, and 14-of-18 from the foul line.
Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) led the Tigers with eight points.
Ashlynn Palmitesso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) added seven, while
Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) tallied six points.
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while
Merissa Maiorano (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Mendon) grabbed seven boards.
Cara Manfredi led Clarkson with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Ashley Loggins added 18 points, while Stephanie Grobe chipped in 14 points for the Golden Knights who shot 41.8 percent from the floor. Devin Sorrell scored 10 points off the bench, and Alyssia Marsal dished out seven assists.
RIT fell behind early in the game as Clarkson came out and scored the first 13 points. Wolcott broke the run by the Golden Knights with RIT's first bucket coming with 15:06 to play in the opening half. The Tigers trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half, but rallied with a 15-2 run, cutting Clarkson's lead to 20-17 on bucket by Glaz with six minutes to play. She scored five of RIT's 15 points in the run, including a 3-pointer.
Clarkson outscored RIT 15-4 over the final six minutes, taking a 35-21 lead into halftime. The Tigers shot 28.0 percent from the floor in the opening half on 7-of-25 shooting. Glaz led RIT with eight points, while Wolcott and
Abby Judd (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) each scored four points.
Clarkson extended its lead to 20 points early in the second half on 3-pointer from Manfredi. The Golden Knights never looked back, building a sizable second-half lead. The Tigers mustered just 19 second-half points, shooting nearly 21 percent from the floor.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 31 with a road contest at league foe St. Lawrence University that gets underway at 2 p.m.
