ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (8-7, 2-4 Liberty League) women's basketball team won its second straight game with a 61-37 win over Bard College (4-9, 0-5 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Clark Gym Friday evening. RIT is now 7-0 all time versus the Raptors.
Maria Edwards (Forrest Hill, MD/The John Carroll School) was one of three Tigers in double figures, tallying 10 points, dishing out four assists, and adding three steals.
"I thought it was great team effort," said RIT Head Coach
Amy Reed. "Our point guard play was the difference. Maria (Edwards) did a great job distributing the ball and was a scoring threat as well."
Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) led RIT with 11 points, while Edwards and
Merissa Maiorano (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Mendon) each scored 10. Mairoano grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and had four steals. The Tigers shot 50.9 percent from the floor on 28-of-55 shooting. RIT was 3-of-9 from behind the arc and 2-of-5 from the foul line.
RIT took a 27-16 lead into halftime. The Tigers shot 44.8 percent from the floor in the opening half on 13-of-29 shooting. Edwards led a balanced RIT attack with six points. Tied 10-10 at the 11:13 mark, the Tigers outscored Bard 17-6 over the final 11 minutes. Bard shot 20 percent from the floor, led by Tytravia RIley, who scored six.
Bard cut the RIT lead to eight points early in the second half when Bianka Bell drained a 3-pointer. The Tigers responded with an 18-5 run, taking a 47-26 lead on a layup by
Julia Bender (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas). RIT led by as many as 24 points in the second half. The Tigers shot 57.7 percent from the floor in the second half. Glaz scored eight of her 11 points in the second half on 3-of-4 shooting.
Riley led Bard 10 points and 13 rebounds. She surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career early in the second half. Bianka Bell added 10 points and six rebounds for the Raptors.
RIT held a slight 36-35 rebounding edge. The Tigers scored 36 points in the paint, and scored 19 points off of 16 Bard turnovers.
The Tigers are right back in action on Saturday against Vassar College in Clark Gym at 2 p.m.
