WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The RIT wrestling team (3-6) won both of its Saturday matches at the prestigious 2015 Budd Whitehill National Duals hosted by Lycoming College, rolling to a resounding 48-6 victory over Alfred State College and 39-9 victory over Trine. Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne) was named to the All-Tournament Team after going undefeated at 149 lbs.
RIT won all nine of its bouts in which a wrestler competed in against Alfred State. After forfeiting at 125 lbs., RIT would not lose, as
Kevin Palmieri (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) pinned Hans Schmieder in 4:55 at 133 lbs.
Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne) earned a pin over Brian Carr in 1:11 at 149 lbs., while
Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne) would earn six points for the Tigers after pinning Joshua Lord in 1:23.
Jake Swearingen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) pinned Juan Nunez in 3:41 at 197 lbs., while
Sam Weinger (Blooming Grovve, NY/Washingtonville) earned a fall over Anthony Osman in 2:07.
Won Kim (Millbrae, CA/Mills) won a close 6-3 decision over Kevin Thayer at 157 lbs., while
Nicholas Greenquist (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose) defeated Konnor Kremer, 7-2 at 165 lbs.
Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion) and
Nick Fisk (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield) picked up wins by forfeit.
Against Trine, Mayville and Cain recorded wins via pinfall. Mayville was a perfect 5-0 over the two days, while Cain went 4-1. Greenquist won via technical fall, while Weinger won a major decision, and Kim and Sepor tallied close victories. Palmieri and Fisk took wins by forfeit.
On Friday, the Tigers dropped all three of their matches, falling to York (Pa.), Ohio Northern, and Williams
RIT is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 17, as they head to the Empire Conference Championships hosted by Oneonta State. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
