No. 16 women’s soccer drops first match of season to No. 9 Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH, PA- The No. 16 RIT (2-1-1) women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2014 season, falling to No. 9 Carnegie Mellon 2-0 Sunday morning on day two of the Doubletree Invitational hosted by the Tartans.

The Tigers were outshot 14-5 by Carnegie Mellon, who held a 6-3 disadvantage in corner kicks. Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) took the loss in net, making four saves, while Katie Liston picked up the win for the Tartans making two saves.

Carnegie Mellon came out firing, tallying their first goal just three minutes into the game when Haili Adams scored with a nice shot on the near-post. The Tartans scored the second goal at the 25 minute mark off of a lose ball inside the six from Savina Reid.

RIT had a few chances to score but could not break through. Elizabeth May (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) was able to get the Tigers first shot on goal in the 43rd minute but Liston was able to make the save.

RIT's best chance to score in the second came in the last 30 seconds, as Liston was able to make the save off of a good shot from May.

The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 10 when the Tigers host cross-town rival St. John Fisher at 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
