ONEONTA, NY -- The RIT (0-3-1) men's soccer team suffered a tough overtime loss, falling to Western New England 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the 2014 Mayor's Cup hosted by SUNY Oneonta. Chris Bruton scored the game winner in the 96th minute for the Golden Bears. RIT's Scott Fishel (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Shots were 10-7 in favor of the Tigers. RIT took seven corner kicks to four for Western New England. Kevin Strobel picked up the win for the Golden Bears, making five saves. Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) took the loss for RIT, making four saves.

The Tigers had a good chance in the 30th minute to take a lead when Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) headed a shot that was marked for the left corner, but Strobel made the diving save.

Tristan Scott (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had a chance for the Tigers in the 40th minute off a service from Dave Boselli (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley). Scott got the shot off, but again, Strobel came up with another big save.

Western New England had a chance in the 44th minute when Scott Trautwein made a run down the right flank. He fired a tricky shot that Reeves stayed with and made the save keeping the game scoreless at halftime.

The Golden Bears had the first good scoring chance in the secon half off a free kick from just outside the RIT penalty box. Ryan Dickinson fired a low shot in the 66th minute that bended around the RIT wall. But Reeves was able to spot the ball and make the save.

The Tigers had two good chances in the 75th and 78th minutes, respectively. Connor Wesch (Massapequa, NY/Kellenberg) had his shot bounce off the crossbar in the 75th, and Kouroupus had his header in the 78th saved by Strobel.

Just before full time, Bobby Spear (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) had a chance with his header that was just wide of the Western New England net.

The Golden Bears finally broke through off a corner kick in the 96th minute. Dickinson redirected a service into the RIT box off a corner kick that Bruton ran onto and flicked into the net for the win.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 when the Tigers host SUNY Cortland at 12 p.m.
