POTSDAM, NY – The RIT (3-5-1, 1-0-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team opened Liberty League play with a 2-1 come-from-behind win at Clarkson University (5-5-1, 0-1-0 Liberty League) on Saturday afternoon. RIT is now 22-20-3 all time versus the Golden Knights.
Rueben Marquez (Williamson, NY/Williamson) and
Geno Rocco (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) tallied for the Tigers. Rocco's goal in the 85th minute proved to be the game winner for the Tigers.
Mike Reverdatto (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem) and
Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) each had an assist for the Tigers.
Shots were 10-9 in favor of RIT, who took five corner kicks to two for Clarkson.
Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) picked up the win in net for RIT, making four saves. Michael King took the loss for Clarkson, making two saves.
It didn't take Clarkson long to get on the scoreboard, tallying in the third minute. Alex Vozzella took a feed from Trevor Blackwell who fired into the back of the RIT net for an early 1-0 lead.
RIT regrouped after halftime tying the game at 1-1 on Marquez's goal in the 53rd minute.
Mike Reverdatto (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem) found Marquez in the Clarkson penalty area and the junior captain buried a shot into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
The Tigers were able to tally the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute. Kouroupas headed a service across the Clarkson box to Rocco who fired a shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
RIT returns to action on Friday, Oct. 3 when the Tigers face Liberty League foe Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. at 4 p.m.
