Men’s Soccer rolls to 5-0 shutout win over Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (2-5-1) men's soccer team defeated cross-town rival Nazareth College (2-5-0) 5-0 on a sunbathed Tuesday afternoon at Tigers Stadium. The Tigers tallied the most goals in the all-time series against the Golden Flyers since 2001. The five goals were the most RIT has scored in a game since an 8-0 win over Bard College on October 12, 2012.

Freshmen Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) scored two goals in the win for the Tigers. Tristan Scott (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and Connor Wesch (Massapequa, NY/Kellenberg) also scored for RIT who outshot the Golden Flyers 28-3. Rueben Marquez (Williamson, NY/Williamson), Matt Miles (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), and Bloshkin each recorded one assist apiece.

RIT's defense was stout allowing only one shot to get through on goal. Junior Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) played 71 minutes picking up the shutout while sophomore Patrick O'Mara (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) finished the game in net for the Tigers. Nate Ripic took the loss for Nazareth making two saves.

It took the Tigers 27 minutes to break through, but Kouroupas' unassisted goal into the upper left corner after slipping through two defenders gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Just 12 minutes later Scott was able to convert inside the box off of a hard corner kick from Bloshkin giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Kouroupas scored again just three minutes into the half from a through ball from Marquez, placing it in the upper deck. Bloshkin followed him 19 seconds later with a blast on an assist from Kouroupus.

In the 83rd minute Wesch placed the final Tigers goal into the lower left corner off of a defender's deflection.

"I am happy with the effort from everyone today," said RIT head coach Bill Garno. "Our defense put a lot of pressure on them and we were able to create a lot of scoring opportunities from the back. Nazareth is always a strong team and are missing a few players but I am happy with our performance and the result."

The Tigers look to keep up their winning ways when they travel to Clarkson University to face the Golden Knights in their Liberty League opener on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.
