Women's soccer plays to scoreless draw versus University of Rochester at Hillside Community Shield

ROCHESTER, NY- For the second straight season, the RIT women's soccer team (3-1-3) and the University of Rochester (3-2-2) played to a scoreless draw in the Hillside Community Shield at Sahlen's Stadium in downtown Rochester on Saturday afternoon.

The Community Shield is a fundraiser aimed at supporting the youth and families served by Hillside Family of Agencies and Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Shots were 13-10 in favor of the Yellowjackets, while corner kicks were 8-1 for Rochester. Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) made five saves, registering her fifth shutout of the season. Aubrey Jaicks made three saves for Rochester.

After a scoreless first half, the Tigers had a chance to score on a penalty kick by Quincey Ornellas (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark) after getting taken down from behind in the 66th minute. She blasted the shot to the lower left corner missing wide of her target.

Rochester came right back five minutes later with a scramble in the box. Laura Cowie-Haskell took a shot that was saved off the line by the Tigers' Caitlyn Daly (Glendora, CA/St. Lucy's Priory).

In the last minute of regulation, Hayley Orciuch got a shot off from in close off a Yellowjackets corner, Murray came off her line to make the save, sending the game into overtime.

RIT had a chance to score in the first overtime when Elizabeth May (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) played a great ball to Sierra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) who got in behind her defender. The Yellowjackets defense collapsed and Kiss was unable to get the shot off. Ornellas had another chance in the second overtime but Jaicks came off her line to make the save.

The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday Sept. 24, when they take on No. 21 Nazareth College at Tiger Stadium.
