ROCHESTER, NY - The No. 21 RIT women's soccer team (2-0-0) picked up its second win of the 2014 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Allegheny College on day two of the Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament. Senior
Sierra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) tallied the game winner in the 64th minute for the Tigers.
Shots were 10-9 in favor of the Tigers, with both teams deadlocked at five in corner kicks.
Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) picked up her second shutout win and 18th of her career, making five saves. Gabby Curtis took the loss for the Gators while tallying two saves.
RIT produced several chances to score in the first half. Finally, in the 25th minute, Kiss blasted RIT's first solid shot on goal after dribbling past an Allegheny defender.
With just over four minutes left in the half,
Alyssa Tatti (Lake Grove, NY/Centereach) drilled a shot off the cross bar to create a scramble in front of the net. The Gator defense was able to hold the Tigers off the scoreboard in the first 45 minutes.
"Allegheny is always very organized and aggressive," said head coach
Liz Masterson. "We weathered well today and were able to get the win."
The Gators came out pressuring in the second half, outshooting RIT 7-5. Allegheny's Liana Leja fired a shot just over the cross bar nine minutes into the second. Shortly after, Murray had a diving save off of a perfectly placed ball to the far corner of the net.
The Tigers were finally able to break through with 25 minutes left in the game. Kiss dribbled past three Allegheny defenders to bury a ball in the far corner. She was RIT's leading scorer last season with 11 goals.
"Looking forward, we have a lot to work on before the Carnegie Mellon Tournament next weekend," said Masterson.
The Tigers will play at Carnegie Mellon University Saturday, Sept. 6 at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m.
